Placing a house on a steep slope facing Ouro Preto's historic landscape required low visual exposure, ground safety and institutional intelligence throughout a lengthy approval process.

Geology + siting

Conceal from the street. Open to the landscape.

The house sits below the street. Vegetation, walls and topography reduce visibility from notable viewpoints while opening domestic spaces to the horizon.

Design + construction

The completed house reveals the process.

Stairs, courtyards, verandas and gardens connect the levels. Materials negotiate terrain, use and heritage without historical caricature.

Enough technique to face the hillside.
